About PuzPal

A simple idea for a real problem.

PuzPal is a native iPhone app that helps you find the right jigsaw puzzle piece using your camera. Point your phone at a gap or a loose piece, scan the opposite shape, and let on-device matching guide you to the strongest fit.

Shape first, not artwork

PuzPal matches pieces by their contour outline, not by the picture printed on them. This means it works with any puzzle, regardless of artwork, colour, or design. The matching engine compares geometry in real time using your iPhone's camera and Apple's Vision framework.

On your device, not in the cloud

Every camera frame and contour comparison stays on your iPhone. Nothing is uploaded, stored remotely, or processed by a server. There's no account, no login, and no data collection beyond what you choose to share if you contact support.

Built for the table

PuzPal is designed to be used while you're actively puzzling. Capture a target, move pieces or gaps into the camera view one at a time, and watch the confidence indicator respond in real time. It's a matching assistant, not an auto-solver.

FAQ

Common questions.

Does PuzPal really scan puzzle pieces in real time via the camera?

Yes. PuzPal uses your iPhone’s live camera feed to detect and compare jigsaw shapes continuously. Matching happens entirely on your device using shape geometry — not cloud processing.

Do you use AI to scan puzzle pieces?

No. PuzPal does not use AI, machine learning, or neural networks. It detects the outline of each puzzle piece or gap using Apple’s Vision framework, then compares those contour shapes mathematically. Think of it as geometry matching, not image recognition.

Do I need to create an account or log in?

No. PuzPal has no accounts, no login, and no sign-up. Open the app and start scanning straight away.

Does PuzPal require a subscription or payment?

No subscription. PuzPal is a one-time purchase from the App Store with no recurring fees, in-app purchases, or hidden costs.

What iPhone do I need?

PuzPal requires an iPhone running iOS 18 or later.

Is PuzPal available on Android?

Not currently. PuzPal is an iPhone-only app built with native iOS technologies.

The app won’t detect my puzzle piece — what should I try?

Make sure you have good, even lighting without glare. Frame one piece or gap at a time inside the on-screen guide. Use Scan Gap or Scan Piece mode for the best results — Scan Edge is a lower-confidence fallback. A clean, contrasting background also helps the camera pick up the shape. If the problem persists, use the built-in Report Matching Issue tool in the camera view to record a short clip of the issue. PuzPal packages the recording and diagnostics into a bundle you can share with support for analysis.

Does PuzPal use image or artwork recognition?

No. PuzPal matches by shape geometry — the contour outline of each piece — not by the picture printed on it. This means it works regardless of the puzzle’s artwork or design.

Does PuzPal upload my camera feed or puzzle images?

No. All camera frames and contour data stay on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to a server.

What are the three scanning modes?

Scan Gap: capture a missing gap on the board, then scan loose pieces to find a match. Scan Piece: capture a loose piece, then scan gaps on the board to find where it fits. Scan Edge: capture one clear edge as a fallback when the full gap is blocked or hard to frame.

Can PuzPal solve an entire puzzle at once?

No. PuzPal compares one gap or one piece at a time. It’s a matching assistant that helps you find the right piece faster, not an automatic puzzle solver.
